Our place on the mountain.
Just 35 feet below the Howell Mountain AVA boundary, our Rockwell Ridge estate vineyard is rooted in the hillsides of Crystal Springs of Napa AVA. Planted in 1993, these four-plus acres are the heart of the Hertelendy story.
Western exposure and rocky terrain shape fruit with the depth, energy, and individuality we seek.

A volcanic foundation.
Tuffaceous rock, volcanic ash, red clay, and granite-like subsoils define the hillside sites we seek.
Depth through adversity.
Rocky, low-fertility soils and exceptional drainage limit vigor, encouraging the concentration at the heart of our wines.
The mountain’s signature.
Afternoon sunshine and cool nights bring ripeness and freshness together — power with precision.
A place worth defining.
Seven years in the making. Ralph Hertelendy partnered with viticulturist Steve Burgess to establish Crystal Springs of Napa Valley AVA.
Between St. Helena, Calistoga, and Howell Mountain, its hillsides rise from 400 to 1,400 feet. Western exposure, warm days, and cool nights give this landscape a voice of its own.
